The winner will receive a $1000 scholarship from the New Zealand Brass Foundation and offered a solo engagement with the champion band of New Zealand Wellington Brass.

The competition is open to all New Zealand brass players aged between 16 and 25 years old. The 2016 competition will be in two rounds. Round One is a video performance of between 8-15 minutes consisting of a solo performance with piano, brass band or recorded backing track accompaniment.

After the audition round a panel of jurors will select three finalists to compete in the final (Round Two) to be held at St Andrew's on The Terrace in Wellington on Saturday 19 November 2016. The finalists will be accompanied by Wellington Brass performing a 20-30 minute programme.
